So, I want to write a picture book. . .

I go to Mem Fox's website for answers. . .

Now the tricky part -- getting my picture book manuscripts to 500 words or less. . .

Music for inspiration

And I will TRUST myself and the writing process!

"When I sit at my table to write, I never know what it's going to be
until I'm under way. I trust in inspiration, which sometimes comes
and sometimes doesn't. But I don't sit back waiting for it. I work
every day." --Alberto Moravia

Positive Thinking. . .

I can't write a book by just by thinking about it. I can only write it by WRITING it. And to learn to be a better writer I need to write. [ and read, I know].

So, this song came to mind today -

Read –Alouds

This week I’m studying my picture book manuscripts and reading them aloud.

Do you read your manuscripts aloud to yourself? Do you record yourself reading them?

I’m also reading these two books – to learn more about read –alouds.

This week’s writing mantra –
~ Make it sound better by choosing the best ingredients = words and pacing.

Food find –

These tubes of herbal goodness are AMAZING when mixed in with mayonnaise for a fish sauce [ I used the Italian Seasoning Herb Blend on pan seared striped bass, my husband said it was better than tartar sauce =) ]

It’s also great with oil & vinegar for a salad dressing!

[ and no – they didn’t pay me to say that =) ]

Esther & Bessie are in search of a plot. . .

Today I’m spending my writing time. . .

Learning about barnstorming while I redo the plot of a historical fiction picture book.
An editor said I had too much ‘invented dialogue’ and the MC actually talked and interacted with the historical person [not good but I liked it ;) ], soooooo it’s back to the storyboard boxes looking for a new plot.

And going back to this video to remember what it was like to ride in a biplane

NOTE--- turn down the volume on your computer before you click on the link - it's VERY noisy

Food for today = I’m going to make Linguine & clams for dinner

Here’s the recipe

It's been a long time. . .

It's been too long since I posted here.

I've been working very hard at digging deeper into my picture book manuscripts making them shorter, more layered and character driven and [I think] better.

My phrase this week for that is - Be the character!

the food word for today is fondue. . .

later today my husband and are are going to The Melting Pot
to enjoy a three course fondue meal = cheese, wine/broth & lastly chocolate fondue.

"The effort involved in writing a short story is as intense as
beginning a novel, where everything must be defined in the first
paragraph: structure, tone, style, rhythm, length and sometimes even
the personality of a character." --Gabriel Garcia Marquez
